Yeah, I know their stock jumped about 7% today, but I figure Google can always use some help.
They've come up with a game that helps them better classify the images they find on the web, and I'm hooked on it. If you go to http://images.google.com/imagelabeler/, they'll link you up with an anonymous parter. You have 90 seconds to write a one-word description of as many pictures as you can, and if your partner comes up with the same label you do, you each get points.
Keep in mind that the points are worthless. As Drew Carey used to say, "If the points were on Happy Days, they'd be Ritchie's older brother." But for some reason, I play, and in the process help Google further establish its world domination. It's infuriating when the picture is clearly a dog and your invisible partner wants to pass, but it's also thrilling when you both get that the picture of a gloved hand holding a scalpel is an "operation."
I just wish I'd known what to call the picture of a guy in skies standing on dirt under a road sign. Redneck vacation?

Giddy up!
Some of the people are clearly deranged and/or stupid. Frustrating. But a good matchup makes me happy :).
It's weird how addicting this thing is. I just wish when each round was over you could see what kind of labels your partner was throwing out there so you could see just how deranged and/or stupid the other person is.
you can...just hover over the pictures at the summary...
