The bigger pictures

I'm a little brain-mushed today thanks to a certain screaming teething sleep-defying kid, so I hope this makes sense. I'm ditching the site's photo album (which I'm proud to say I build from scratch and have shared with some other sites), and am switching to Google's Picasaweb to host pictures. I was holding onto that hand-written code pretty hard, but on reflection there are too many reasons to let Google do the hosting:

1. I no longer pay to host a bunch of big picture files
2. It's quicker and easier for me to upload new pictures
3. You can download the full resolution originals instead of the rinky-dink facsimiles

This last one was the big decider. Too many family members had tried saving the old low-rez versions for printing. And when you're dealing with a face as gorgeous as TheGirl's, it's all about pixels.

The way it works now is that the Photo Album portion of the site has two sets of links, one to Lisa's account and one to mine. Once you land on Google, you'll find not only higher resolution pictures but better navigation, faster servers, different sharing options and -- if you install Picasa, which I highly recommend -- you can download entire albums of pictures to your desktop with one click.

Next for me is to learn enough XML to start using Picasaweb's RSS feed and actually embed the pics back on LisaandJacob.com. But that's a geeky story for another day.
