Jackass

No, not the movie, which incidently starts this weekend and for which I will knock you down and step on your head if you get between me and the ticket window tonight.

The jackass in question here is Gabriel Sherman, a media critic by day and a serious runner by other times of the day. Someone must have insulted his hipster glasses because he drops a crazy little tirade today in Slate in which he complains:
  • Too many newbies run marathons
  • I've run 6 marathons
  • Newbies suck
That's it. Read the article and tell me if I missed anything.

Ultimately, it's sad that there are such people around trying to dump on other people's experiences just because they did it first and/or better. And it happens everywhere -- whether it's music or movies or any other cultural experience, there's always someone trying to close the door as soon as they get inside.

The lesson I'll be teaching Sophie is that if something is fun/healthy/interesting/important to do, don't be a child and horde it. Be an adult and share it. Too bad no one taught that to Gabe.

Yeah, that Slate nut is a nutty nut. My opinion of Slate has been declining the past couple of months. For bon mots, it's fine. But for anything more, forget it.

That guy's a fucking pinhead. Who cares if other people are slower when you're RUNNING IN FRONT OF THEM?!
