Adoption Journal: Docs to DC

Despite the errors of some well-meaning but under-trained notaries, our 13 officially notarized and state authenticated documents went into the mail today for D.C. We're paying a courier service there to receive them tomorrow (Friday), take them by hand to the State Department and then walk them to the Chinese Embassy.

It's truly one of the squirreliest systems I've ever seen, starting with the fact that the State Department only receives documents during a two-hour daily window to the fact that we have to pay for a government service that in theory should be covered by taxes.

But hey, a week from tomorrow, we should have the 13 precious docs back in our hands. Then we turn around and send them off to our Texas-based adoption agency, who looks them over and passes them to China itself.

And then, to quote "The Simpsons," we just sit back and feel our ass grow.
